Tom's Shoes

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

On Monday, November 17, students living in the residence halls on campus helped underprivileged children in Africa by buying a pair of Tom's Shoes.

"I saw a flier for this event in my building and I was interested," said Jessica Garcia, senior, Spanish major. "I looked up more information on Tom's Shoes online and thought the concept was a great idea."

Students signed up early and paid $20 for their own pair. With this fee, students were able to choose from two colors: navy or natural. They were also able to decorate their shows with provided supplies.

"How could anyone lose," said Emily Ferrrill, senior, Biology major. "Tom's shows are normally $50, we got them for $20. Plus you can't forget the best thing that comes out of buying a pair of shoes."

Tom's shoes are known for their cause. For every pair of Tom's Shoes bought, the company will send a pair of Tom's Shoes to an underprivileged child in Africa. Though most of the students participated knew about their donation, others just wanted to decorate shoes.

"The bookstore does not sell any Long Beach shoes and I wanted some," said Nick Powell, sophomore, Recreation major. "This way I can make my own the way I want and show my Beach pride."

28 pairs of Tom's Shoes were bought and donated due to the students living in the Residence halls. For more information on Tom's Shoes visit their website at: www.tomsshoes.com
